Air Signs: Gemini · Libra · Aquarius

The three signs

• Gemini

Mutable air: curious, quick and witty, at home wherever words travel.

• Libra

Cardinal air: fair, charming and diplomatic, always looking for balance between people.

• Aquarius

Fixed air: independent, original and loyal to ideas, often ahead of its time.

What defines the air signs

Air is the element of the mind and of relation. Air signs process the world by talking, studying, comparing and asking questions, and they need contact with other minds the way fire needs movement. They see patterns early, adapt to people quickly and keep their options open. Their gift is perspective: they can name what everyone feels and see where a conflict comes from. The shadow is distance. Air can describe a feeling perfectly and still hold it at arm's length.

In love and friendship

In love, air signs need a conversation partner first. Attraction starts in the head: wit, shared curiosity, a mind that surprises them. They want freedom inside the bond and room for their friends, projects and ideas. They show love by listening, by sending the article that made them think of you, by treating you as an equal. What suffocates them is jealousy and heavy emotional scenes; what loses them is a partner who is predictable in the wrong way. Their circles of friends are wide.

At work

At work, air signs communicate, connect and invent. Writing, teaching, media, law, diplomacy, technology, research, design and everything between two worlds suit them. They learn fast, switch tasks easily and translate between people who do not understand each other. They do best with variety and autonomy and lose focus in rigid routine. Deadlines help them finish; a colleague who loves details helps them land the idea.

Under pressure

Under pressure, air scatters. Air signs overthink, open twelve tabs and talk themselves out of a decision they felt clearly an hour earlier. The body is forgotten, sleep turns shallow and feeling is postponed. What helps is writing things down, a walk without a phone, and one decision made today and spoken to one trusted person. Calm returns when the head and the breath slow down together.

Which elements fit together

Air works best with fire and with air. Fire gives air momentum and courage, and air gives fire ideas and applause. Two air signs talk for hours and share a world of ideas; they must make sure that feelings get spoken too. Earth steadies air and gives its ideas ground, though air may find earth slow. Water offers a depth that fascinates air, and the risk is that air thinks about feelings while water wants them shared.

From sun sign to Codex Type

An air sun sign is a style of thinking, not your whole nature. The Codex Type is calculated from the element of each of the 11 points of your chart, sun, moon, ascendant and planets, all with equal weight. A Libra sun with a moon in water and planets in earth gets a different type than a chart that is air in most places. When air leads your chart, the type below fits you.
