Your numerology numbers

Life path number — The digit sum of your birth date. It reveals the central theme of your life and your path of growth. Master numbers (11, 22, 33) are given special weight.

Expression number — Calculated from all the letters of your name. It reveals your natural talents and how you express yourself in the world.

Soul urge number — Only the vowels of your name. It reveals your inner motivation and what moves you at the level of the soul.

Personal year — Shows the theme of the current year and which energies are at work for you right now.

How your life path number is calculated

Your life path number comes from your complete birth date. You add up the day, month and year digit by digit, then reduce the sum until a single digit between 1 and 9 remains. Someone born on July 14, 1990 calculates 1+4+7+1+9+9+0 = 31, then 3+1 = 4 — so the life path number is 4.

The so-called master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are the exception. If you arrive at one of these while adding up, it is not reduced any further, because it is considered to carry a meaning of its own. You can retrace the calculation by hand at any time — that makes the result verifiable and strips away any mystery.

Unlike the expression number, which is derived from the letters of your name, the life path number stays the same for life. It does not change through marriage, moving house or new chapters in life — which makes it a stable point of reference.

What your life path number describes

The life path number points to your basic temperament and to themes that keep coming up for you over the years. A 1 stands for independence and drive, a 2 for balance and relationship, a 7 for the need to withdraw and go deep. It is not about a pigeonhole, but about a tendency you can recognize in yourself.

Every number carries a strength and a shadow side. The 8, for instance, can be focused and organized, but also controlling; the 3 is expressive and sociable, yet prone to scattering its energy. This dual nature is the genuinely useful part: you see not only your potential, but also the typical trap you tend to fall into.

In everyday life this helps above all with decisions that should fit who you are. When you know you need freedom rather than fixed structures, you make more conscious choices about work, where you live or your relationships — instead of working against your own disposition.

Common misconceptions about numerology

A widespread misunderstanding is that numbers predict the future. They do not. Numerology is an interpretive system that orders patterns and invites self-reflection — not a tool that fixes events. What you make of the hints remains your own decision.

Equally mistaken is the assumption that one number is better or worse than another. There are no lucky and no unlucky numbers. Every life path number brings its own blend of gift and lesson; the 4 is no less valuable than the 11, just because the latter counts as a master number.

Finally, it is worth not blending the life path, expression and soul urge numbers together. They look at different areas — life theme, outward presence and inner motives. Only in their interplay do they form a coherent picture, and the contradictions between them are often the most interesting part.

Frequently asked questions

How is the life path number calculated?

All the digits of your birth date are added together and reduced to a single digit. Example: March 15, 1990 → 1+5+0+3+1+9+9+0 = 28 → 2+8 = 10 → 1+0 = 1. Your life path number would be 1.

What are master numbers?

The numbers 11, 22 and 33 are not reduced any further in numerology. They are considered especially powerful and carry a heightened vibration.

Why is my name used?

In numerology every letter has a numerical value (A=1, B=2, ... Z=8 in the Pythagorean system). Your full birth name holds the vibration of your talents and your soul.
