A fixed image for your solar degree — Each of the 360 zodiac degrees carries its own Sabian symbol. Your Sun sits on exactly one degree — so exactly one image belongs to you. It isn't invented; it has been handed down since 1925, and your interpretation grows out of that one fixed emblem.

A scene, not a label — Sabian symbols are deliberately pictorial: “a large, well-kept public park”, “a woman just risen from the sea, embraced by a seal”. These scenes speak to intuition rather than to a category — they open a space in which you recognize yourself.

In 1925, Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler sat down together in a park in San Diego. Jones shuffled 360 cards — one for each degree of the zodiac — and Wheeler, without knowing the degree number, described the image that rose in her for each. In a single afternoon, the complete series of Sabian symbols came into being.

What makes these images special: they follow no logical derivation from planets or elements, but appear as spontaneous, seer-like scenes. Precisely there lies their power — they bypass the analyzing mind and touch something a sober category cannot hold. The astrologer Dane Rudhyar later lifted the symbols out of obscurity and read them as stages of an inner ripening.

For interpretation, what always counts is the symbol of the whole degree your Sun stands in: if it sits at 24.3° of a sign, the symbol of the 25th degree belongs to you — the degrees are counted rounded up (the first degree runs from 0° to 1°).

Read the image literally first, then symbolically. A “public park” is a place laid out and tended for many, without anyone living in it — that can point to a being who creates and keeps spaces open for others. Stay close to the concrete image; the strongest readings invent nothing extra but listen carefully to what the scene itself tells.

Watch for the core movement in the image: is something being built, released, tested, shared? That gesture is often the heart of your essential task. A symbol is neither a verdict nor a prophecy — it is a mirror in which you see a recurring trait of your life more clearly.

Because the symbol hangs on the solar degree, a reasonably accurate birth time helps — the Sun moves only about one degree per day, yet near a degree boundary a single day can make the difference. If you don't know your birth time exactly, check whether your Sun sits at the edge of a degree.
