The Tzolkin is a cycle of 260 days that combines two wheels: 20 solar seals and 13 galactic tones. Each combination yields exactly one Kin — that is, one of 260 possible day signatures. Your personal Kin results from your date of birth, which is translated into this continuous counting system.

Unlike the star sign, which follows the position of the Sun, the Tzolkin is based on a pure day count with no reference to the seasons. That is why your Kin does not shift each year — your birthday has a fixed place in the 260-day wheel.

In practice this means: your solar seal describes the quality with which you act, and your tone describes the manner and stage at which this quality unfolds. Only the two together give the complete picture of your signature.

The 20 solar seals — such as Dragon, Moon, Warrior or Mirror — stand for different basic attitudes and themes that shape you. They say less about what you do than about the inner orientation from which you approach things.

The 13 tones form a kind of developmental arc from impulse through stabilising to completion. A low tone points to beginnings and the setting of intentions, a higher one to maturation, refinement and closure. So each seal takes on an additional dynamic.

When you read your Kin, it helps not to view seal and tone separately. Ask yourself concretely: in which situations do I recognise this basic attitude, and at which stage do I currently stand with this theme? From this come usable starting points rather than abstract labels.

The Tzolkin describes not only your birth signature but also the Kin of each individual day. Many people use this to plan their days more consciously: on a day with a low tone it is good to start new ventures, while a high tone invites you to finish and let go.

It makes sense to understand the daily Kin as a suggestion, not a rule. You don't have to arrange your day by it — but the question of which theme is currently to the fore can help you place your own mood and set priorities.

A common misunderstanding is that the Tzolkin is a prediction system for luck or misfortune. More fitting is the image of a rhythm: it describes qualities of time that you can swing along with or deliberately use against the grain — the decision always stays with you.
