A birth horoscope is an exact snapshot of the sky above your birthplace — calculated for the precise day, time and geographic position. From this data come the positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets across the twelve zodiac signs, as well as their distribution across the twelve houses, which mark areas of life such as relationships, work or home.

That makes it far more than your sun sign, which describes only the Sun's position. Only the interplay of every factor produces a differentiated picture — for instance, how your need for closeness (Moon) differs from the way you think (Mercury) or from your outward presence (the ascendant).

The astronomical foundation comes from Swiss Ephemeris, a highly precise calculation of the planetary orbits. The positions themselves are therefore pure mathematics; the interpretation is the language that translates these constellations for your own life.

The ascendant and the houses shift by a whole sign roughly every two hours. An imprecise birth time can therefore change the ascendant and move the houses your planets fall into — and with them the areas of life to which they are assigned.

If the detail is missing entirely, your sun, moon and planetary signs still remain meaningful; only the ascendant and house placements can't then be reliably determined.
