BaZi — Four Pillars of Destiny
BaZi (八字, literally "eight characters") is the classical Chinese art of destiny — it reads your moment of birth as four pillars: year, month, day and hour. Each pillar joins a heavenly stem with an earthly branch, and the stem of your day pillar — your Day Master — marks the core of who you are. Birth Codex calculates your Four Pillars precisely from your birth date, time and time zone, woven into 23 cosmic systems.

What your Four Pillars reveal
The four pillars — The year, month, day and hour of your birth become four pillars — each a heavenly stem (天干) over an earthly branch (地支). Together they draw the underlying pattern of your life: roots, upbringing, core and expression.
The Day Master (日主) — The stem of your day pillar is your Day Master — the "I" of your chart. It shows which of the five elements your nature is made of at its core, and how you meet the world.
The five elements (五行) — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water spread across your eight characters. Where they gather and what is missing shows your strengths, your drive and the balance your life is reaching for.
Yin, Yang and the Ten Gods (十神) — Every character carries a polarity, and the relationship of the other stems to your Day Master forms the Ten Gods — the classical roles of nourishing, creating, controlling and holding within your chart of destiny.
Read together — The Four Pillars reveal their full depth alongside your Chinese zodiac animal, the I Ching and Nine Star Ki — all part of your complete Birth Codex reading.
Frequently asked questions
What is BaZi / the Four Pillars?✦
BaZi (八字) is the classical Chinese art of destiny. It translates your moment of birth into four pillars — year, month, day and hour — each a heavenly stem over an earthly branch. From these you read the Day Master and the balance of the five elements.
How are my Four Pillars calculated?✦
Birth Codex derives the four pillars deterministically from your date, time and time zone: the year pillar follows the start of spring (立春), the month pillar the true solar longitude — as part of 23 systems.
Do I need my exact birth time?✦
The year, month and day pillars need only your birth date. The hour pillar needs your birth time, because it changes in two-hour double-hours — the more exact the time, the more complete your chart.
